Ludhiana : The Municipal Corporation planted more than 26,000 saplings and fully-grown plants along with 10,000 tree guards this monsoon. However, most of the locations chosen for the plantation are on the busy roadsides where plants have no chance to grow. The plants have been added on roadsides just to add numbers. A glaring example can be seen on the Pakhowal Road, Ferozepur Road, in colonies such as Karnail Singh Nagar, Vikas Nagar, Model Town Extension, Dandi Swami Road and many areas. Tree guards are seen protecting ‘dead’ plants on roadside of Pakhowal Road while a few in little better condition are along the wall of the residential or the commercial accommodation on this road and hence they have no chance to spread and grow. The pucca roads had been dug up to plant these saplings. Apart from this, saplings have also been planted along the Buddha Nallah road which are also crying for proper care. As many as Rs 1200 has been spent on one tree guard and after plantation it seems that plants have never been watered.
