ASI apologises for mistake

Tarn Taran : Hundreds of farmers gheraoed a police party of Powercom police station, Verka, at the Amritsar bypass here today and got a farmer, who was mistakenly taken into custody by the police party, released. According to information, the farmer who was gotten released, has been identified as Daljit Singh of Bhaini Mattuan village, 18 km from here. Daljit Singh was mistakenly taken into custody by the Powercom police, Verka. Whereas, Kulwant Singh, another farmer of the same village, was to be arrested. The Powercom authorities had imposed a fine of Rs 1.30 lakh on Kulwant Singh for not paying the bill. As he did not pay the fine, the Powercom issued arrest warrants against Kulwant Singh. The police party in place of Kulwant Singh took Daljit into its custody. As soon as leaders of the Kisan Sangharsh Committee got the information in this regards they immediately gathered and moved towards the police party. The farmers met the police party at the local Amritsar bypass and they gheraoed the police party and raised slogans against the police. When Bhupinder Singh, ASI, in charge of the police party, came to known about the blunder, he apologised from the farmers and released Daljit Singh.
