Jashan-e-Sahir celebrates poetry event

LUDHIANA : International mushiara, Jashn-e-Sahir 2010, was organized for the 38th time on Saturday night. Organized by Adeeb international and Nehru Sidhant Kendra Trust, the event saw the presence of many well-known Urdu poets. At the event, renowned film-maker and painter, Padmashree Muzaffar Ali, was given the Sahir award. The event and the prize are named after legendary poet, Sahir Ludhianvi, who was from the city. Popular poet and lyricist Javed Akhtar was not able to make it to the programme, which left many disappointed. Muzaffar Ali said residents of Ludhiana were lucky to be living in Sahir city of birth. During the decades of 60s and the 70s Ludhiana was known to the world as the place where Abdul Hayee (later known by his pseudonym Sahir Ludhianvi) was born on March 8, 1921. He belonged to a Jagirdar family. At the event, everybody remembered his highly romantic song, Kabhie Kabhie mere dil mein from the movie Kabhie Kabhie. Sahir studied and graduated from Khalsa High School in Ludhiana and then at Satish Chander Dhawan Government College. Sahir was closely associated withMumbai film industry and was prolific lyricist. Many people from the industry turned up for the event.
